Ladies Night: How to Make the Long Island Iced Tea

How to Make a Long Island Ice TeaI have never understood why this drink, one of the most potent of the common cocktails, is considered a girly drink.  With almost a double shot if made exactly to recipe, it is more often a three shot drink.  That’s even boozier than a martini.  It must be the taste that garners the girly reputation for if made correctly, it tastes just like a glass of iced tea.

The Long Island Iced Tea

  • 0.5 oz Gin
  • 0.5 oz Rum
  • 0.5 oz Tequila
  • 0.5 oz Triple Sec
  • 0.5 oz Vodka
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 1 oz lemon juice
  • cola
  • lemon wedge for garnish (optional)

Add all ingredients except cola to a collins glass with ice.  Stir until well mixed.  Top off with cola and serve with a straw.  And that’s all there is to it for this potent crowd pleaser.

Another great thing about this cocktail is that it hides cheap booze.  In fact, this is the kind of cocktail that really isn’t worth using good booze for.  Save your good vodka and gin for Maritinis and use the really cheap stuff in the long island iced teas.  The best part?  It means that this strong drink is inexpensive to make and amazing to enjoy.

Total cost per drink: $0.94
