Sunday Funday: Breaking Bad Finale Cocktails, Part 1

breaking bad finale cocktails

Breaking Bad is ending today and it’s all about the blue crystal. There is no question that everyone will be glued to the series finale of Breaking Bad to find out what happens to all of the characters.  Although Walter and Jesse may focus on meth production, here at Broke & Thirsty the focus is on spirits and great cocktails.  I see no better way to salute such an amazing show like Breaking Bad than with a cocktail.  Or even better, lots of cocktails.  Here are a collection of breaking bad themed cocktails collected from around the web, with more of my own recipes appearing soon.

The Walterita

from Almost Makes Perfect

  • 1.5 oz Tequila
  • 0.5 oz orange liqueur
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • kosher salt for rimming glasses
  • blue food coloring
  • blue rock candy for garnish

The best part of this recipe is the blue ice, made in a sheet for quicker freezing and to better resemble Breaking Bad’s famous blue crystal.  Begin by putting a thin layer of water in a baking sheet and mixing in a couple of drops of blue food coloring.  Let freeze for a couple of hours.  Once fully frozen, smash the ice into small pieces.  Next die the salt for rimming with a couple more drops of blue food coloring, run a lime wedge around the rim of the glass and dip the glass in the salt.  Fill the glass with blue crystal ice and pour in the tequila, lime, and orange liqueur.  Stir and top off with more ice.  Garnish with a blue rock candy and serve.  This cocktail is incredibly refreshing and the tequila is for the south west, where the show is set.  The Walterita takes a bit of prep, but is completely worth it.

Breaking Bad Finale CocktailsThe Blue Margarita

previously on Broke & Thirsty

  • 3 oz Tequila
  • 1 oz Blue Curaçao
  • 2 oz like juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup (optional
  • Salt for rim (optional)

Pour all ingredients in a shaker with a generous portion of ice and shake vigorously until chilled. If you tend to like sweeter drinks, add about an ounce of simple syrup to take the edge off the lime. If you like the salty taste, rim your chilled highball or margarita glass with salt. Then strain the contents of the shaker into the glass.  This cocktail offers a simple, prep free way to offer a great blue color with the great taste of a margarita.

from A Beautiful Mess

  • 1.5 oz Vodka
  • 1.5 oz blue syrup
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 4 oz club soda
  • blue rock candy for garnish

The blue syrup can be made quite simply by combining 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water and 1 teaspoon of blue Kool-Aid in a saucepan.  Bring to a slow boil and let cool.  For the blue crystal cocktail, pour all ingredients over ice into a highball glass.  Stir together and serve garnished with a rock candy.  This drink is quite cheap and has great flavor and color without any annoying messing with blue food coloring.  A win-win-win all around.

More great Breaking Bad Finale Cocktails to come…so keep refreshing.

  1. Delicious. Me want and me want it now.

I’ll need to be heavily intoxicated to come to terms with the fact that the show is ending.
